Our
Mission & Values

We are a group of Catholic families based in England. In 2014, having become aware that it was difficult to find retreat weekends for families in England, we decided to organise prayer weekends near London with Father Dominique Sterckx, a Carmelite priest. We are supported by the Diocese of Westminster.

Since we started, families who have been profoundly affected by their encounter with Christ, have volunteered to serve other families. Approximately ten families volunteer each year, either during the retreat weekends or at PULSE. We constantly marvel at these gifted people who put themselves forward in order as many families as possible with the opportunity to experience this adventure.

Our
Spirituality

The spirituality practised by Pulse is inspired by the Carmelite and Ignatian traditions, as well as the new Christian communities.

Carmelite Spirituality 

Pulse offers opportunities to place dialogue with God back at the centre of our lives. We believe that we are called ‘to adopt the habit of living with the Lord as with a friend’ (St Theresa of Avila). This way of prayer leads to an increasingly profound interior life and the ability to recognise how the Lord wants us to reflect that in our daily lives. It is often as a result of this interior meeting with Christ that couples decide to offer their services to Pulse as a way of continuing their spiritual growth together. 

Ignatian Spirituality 

We are inspired, by St Ignatius of Loyola in our way of looking for God, who invites us to recognise the presence of God in all things and benefit from it to the full in our spiritual life. The texts selected for the adults and children on retreat, and the volunteer helpers, play a crucial role in allowing them to discover the path that God wants them to take. 

The New Movements in the Church 

The influence of these new movements, such as Chemin Neuf, Emmanuel, HTB – Alpha and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd can be seen in our joyful way of praising God, as well as in our careful planning, attention to detail, and our provision for the practical and spiritual needs of children.

Our Team

The members of our board of directors are thought leaders who have made a significant contribution to our society. Each and every one of them brings a unique set of skills and expertise to our organisation.
